Engineering : Powder Coating
In keeping with KLM ethos of quality and customer care, we invested in a continuous conveyor powder coating line. This allowed us to bring our Powder coating into our ISO 9001 quality system, enabling us to have total control of our product from manufacture to dispatch, although we still provide a contract service.
All of our powder Coating team members are recruited for their knowledge and aptitude, and are trained in all aspects of the companies operations to ensure that we can meet the expectations of our customers in both quality and delivery. The coatings are electro-statically applied allowing for rapid colour and product changes. Allowing us the freedom to offer Polyester, Epoxy and Epoxy polyester is the full range of RAL and BS colours in both gloss, matt and textured finishes. We can, if required, offer non-standard colours matched to samples supplied by the customer.
- On receipt of components for powder coating, the customer's requirements are clearly identified.
- Work instruction documentation is raised for the workshop operatives. The type of powder to be used is confirmed (i.e. polyester, epoxy, epoxy polyester etc.) and issued from the stores. All materials used in the process are purchased from accredited sources to ensure consistent quality.
- Components are then placed on to a conveyer jig system where they pass through a high pressure wash and degrease system and are iron phosphate through a final rinse before entering a dry off oven. Components are then powder coated.
- Quality - All operatives are responsible for performing the various processes as specified and conduct 100% visual in-process inspection.
- Care - Components are then taken off the conveyor and suitably packed to avoid damage whilst in transit back to the customer.
